YPN Cheese Tasting - June 25

Organized by the World Affairs Council of Houston, this event took place at 13 Celsius - 3000 Caroline St, Houston TX,77004.

It was about the New American Cheese and how we can find International Flavors in our own backyard.

Cheese is an ancient delicacy found in most civilizations throughout the world. Modern cheese can be as sophisticated as wine but is also a basic necessity in every household. The international market for cheese continues to grow, allowing countries to demonstrate their specialty for this universal fine food.
The Houston Dairymaids, Kendra Scott and Lindsey Schechter, specialize in the high end of the dairy spectrum, seeking out cheeses made by hand by small domestic producers. They gave us tastes of some of their best finds and guide us through the basics of identifying cheese styles and pairing cheese with other foods. They also discussed the burgeoning market for artisan American cheese as it compares to international traditions of cheese making and its place in the current movement toward eating locally-produced, less-processed foods.
